Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA)

Among the new initiatives. Undertaken by the government, RMSA was launched in 2009. Its objectives include-

1. Making secondary education of good quality available, accessible and affordable to all young persons in the age group of 15-16.
2.  Removing gender, socio-economic and disability barriers.
3. Making all secondary schools conform to a set of norms.
4. Achieving a General Enrollment Ratio (GER) of 15% in secondary education in period of 5 years.
5. Universal retention by 2020. Funding pattern, between Centre and the States- For Eleventh Plan, 75 : 25 For Twelfth Plan, 50 : 50 (Exception NE Sates – 90 : 10)Union Budget 2013-14 increased the investment in RMSA by 25.6% over RE of the current year.
