Mid-day Meal Scheme:
On 15th August 1995, the Centre launched the National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education (NP-NSPE) to enhance enrollment, retention and attendance among children and at the same time, improve their nutriional levels. It is presently known as the National Programme of Mid-day Meal in Schools (NP-MDMS) or the Mid-day Meal Scheme.
The primary objective of the scheme is to addresstwo of the most pressing problems for majority children in India-hunger and education.
The Scheme covers all children studying in classes 1-8 in govrnment schools, local body and government - aided School, SSA Supported centres incuding Madrasas and Maqtabs, Union Budget 2013-14 allocation Rs. 13,125 crores.
