Sarava Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA)
SSA is one of the major flagship programmes of India. Launched in 2001, it strives for universalization of elementary education as mandated by the 86 th amendment to the Constitution that made free education to children aged 6-14 years, a fundamental right. (Article 21 (A))
Primary Objectives :
i) Enrollment of all children in school.
ii) Retention of all Children till the upper primary stage.
iii) Bridging of gender and social category gaps by focusing specially on the education of girls and children with special needs.
iv) Achieving significant enhancement in learning levels of children by providing computer education to bridge digital divide. Education Gurantee Sheme (EGS) and Alternative Innovative Education (AIE) are important components of SSA that help bring out -of-school children in the fild of education.
Besides, SSA is now the primary vehicale for implementing the Right to Free and compulary Education (RTE)
This programme is being implemented by the Centre in partnership with the State Governments. Union Budget 2013-14 allotted Rs. 27,258 crores for the same.
